Kelly Taylor Mitchell Studio Newsletter: February

Hi Y’all,

Happy Monday! Daffodils are sprouting in Atlanta, and I come bearing news full of gratitude. I hope this note finds you rested, well, and (if you’re like me) ready for Spring.

The Nellie Mae Rowe Award

I am incredibly honored to be an Inaugural awardee of The Nellie Mae Rowe Seed Award presented by The African Diaspora Museum of Atlanta (ADAMA) and The Judith Alexander Foundation. I am especially moved to receive this award named after the indelible influence that is Nellie Mae Rowe and alongside the truly fantastic Dr. Arturo Lindsay, The Nellie Mae Rowe Flower Awardee.

Don’t Run, Don’t Walk — Pre Order

I am over the moon to have my November essay An Invitation: Ancestral Mapping included in Burnaway’s annual anthology. This year’s Reader ‘by hook’ is now available for preorder.

Arriving March 2024. In our fifth Reader, by hook, we contemplate dubious choices, examine inherited histories, and grapple with shifty codependence between people and place in the South. Set in our themes, Conspiracy, Camouflage, and Current, we ask: What is the South? Includes a limited-edition poster by Atlanta-based artist Kelly Taylor Mitchell. “ — Burnaway

Thank you for sharing your time with me here. Don’t hesitate to write back or reach out.

Warmly,

KTM
