Kelly Taylor Mitchell Studio Newsletter: January

Hi Y’all,

I hope you’re settling in smoothly to 2024. As I find my footing in the New Year I am reaching out with invitations to openings, talks, and reflections with so much gratitude for your care and support of my work.

Opening Tomorrow!

Kelly Taylor Mitchell & Sergio Suárez: Material Memory, curated by TK Smith, opens tomorrow at Swan Coach House gallery in Atlanta. I have been so looking forward to this special show full of brick dust, charcoal, and nourishing material intersections. I hope you’ll join us during tomorrow’s opening reception from 6-9PM. The show is on view through February 15th.

Material Memory brings together two celebrated Atlanta-based artists whose practices use material as a critical form of communication. Beyond functional use, materials are filled with personal, cultural, and symbolic meanings that often trigger memory and imagination. When thoughtfully woven together, certain materials can read like language, offering supplemental, if not critical, meaning to a work of art.” (Exhibition statement excerpt)

Slice, 2023. Handmade paper: Alabama river cane, flax, image transfer. On view in Material Memory at Swan Coach House Gallery through February 15th.
